Apsaras are like nymph like creatures during the Khmer kingdom. Probably courtesans of the king’s palace. Chosen for their beauty and skill to dance.

Kompong Khleang at the northern end of Tonle Sap is the home of the fishing community. At the fringe of the lake are the estuaries and swamp like areas where the fishermen use long poles instead of paddles.

Cambodian River Folk

A wizened couple going up stream in a small old beat up boat. What interested me in this capture was the expressions on their faces. But now I am intrigued by the boat which is cleared powered by a motor but not with an outboard engine. It appears that all the boats in this configuration are outfitted with inboard engines with hidden rudder controls.

Uninhibited

There is something about being young and carefree. Not having a worry in the world. Frolicking in the sun and water. Kind of a Huckleberry existence. As an overly concerned parent, I would worry about parasites and dangers lurking in the water – not in the least crocodiles, snakes and other poisonous animals… Civilisation has certainly wrung out the desire to be adventurous and being carefree.

Photo Notes: Taken with EOS 7D & EF70-200 f4 IS L. As I was photographing from on board a powered motor boat the images needed to be shot at continuous high speed to avoid camera shake as well as get a few in proper composition.  Fortunately the blazing hot sun helped with faster frame speeds.

The Angkor Wat

The Angkor Wat was first a city built by the early Khmer Kings for its citizens in the 12th Century. All the early Khmer cities had the temples in the centre and Angkor Wat is probably the most well preserved as well as being the largest. It lays claim as the largest religious building in the world. This image was photographed at the first of two levels from the inner wall of the temple itself. The five towers is over 75 meters from the bottom of the stairs.

Photo Notes: Taken with EOS 5D Mk2 and 17-40mm f4 lens at 17mm.
